A special "card" for my DH!

Hello my Friends.  I hope your Christmas was wonderful.  I had great Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with family and friends.

I made a card for my husband... but not a traditional one.  It is not very symmetrical and probably would not make any sense for you...but I made it full of symbols that describe him... at least in my perspective.

I made it in a canvas with words since he likes to read and lives by his word.  I used paint all over and specifically added some brushes since he likes and appreciates art and its forms.

I also stamped a message about how he needs coffee but deserves wine, and used a clock with wine glasses because he is very strict with time and I usually see him relaxed when he's tasting wine.

I added a dog's silhouette to symbolize our dog son, and I also included arrows because he's like a personal GPS for some people.

A house symbolizes his love for our home and a big heart in pieces to be able to love a lot of different people around him.

Also rulers because he is very square and likes to measure all. LOL!

And there's much more... but you've got the idea.  He loved his special piece of art.  Hope you like it.  Tks for your comments.

More Holiday Cards...

And... here I am again!  I'm so happy.  This week has been full of work but also of great emotions.

The new edition of the "Papeles y Más" Magazine (Papers and More) has been released... and I cannot wait to see it.  Design Team will be revealed and I am part of it.  It is so exciting!

I will definitely share more of it soon...  For now, let me just share a set of Christmas cards I recently made.

I designed one and then followed the same look for the others... that is why I call them a "set".

I punched a circle to show the stamped image...

... and when opened, a sentiment is revealed.

For the cover I used different patterned papers, washi tape and buttons.

Also tied the buttons with some baker's twine.

Images were colored with watercolor pencils.

Here are the four cards together as a "set".

Live your life... and forget your (my) age!

Dear friends...

As you have read in my recent posts, I had a birthday recently!  I'm a very grateful for God's blessings and to celebrate life is a way of saying Thanks... and have some fun too!  I feel that even though there are things in my life I wish I had, the others I do have are the ones that really matter.  Besides, the things we don't have are the ones that make us stronger to keep fighting or persevering to accomplish them or other new things we don't even expect.  Do I make sense?  Well... the thing is that I've celebrated my birthday in different ways... and will keep on celebrating every day of October.

I've had small "get together" activities to celebrate.  With my friend (mother of my goddaughter) at her home, then with mom the day before my birthday, at work with a nice lunch with my coworkers and friends, and many more...  But then, I had an official "get together" last Saturday at the lobby of one of my favorites hotels in the island...

And because this blog is mainly about scrap booking I have to show what I made...

Very simple, but I had to put my personal touch to some of the elements in the party.

The theme of the birthday was the use of damask in the elements.  My digital invitation featured damasks in different colors combined with silver sequins and the message "Live your life... and forget your age!".

Since we decided to give cupcakes to go instead of a cake (easier when you are hanging out, drinking or simply in another party mood, you know?)... I embellished the boxes with stamped damasks in a punched circle over card-stock or patterned paper.  Each combination of damasks, colors and papers was different.

In mass production we placed the cupcakes in the boxes with doilies.  

At the event, we arranged them to simulate a cake.  We had to be watching other people wanting to get them thinking they were free giveaways...LOL!

I also gave a scented candle in a jar as a token of appreciation to the people in my party.  I printed the damask and the theme and combined with lace or silver ribbon and sequins to embellish.  Also stamped a damask in a punched circle which I also embossed and painted the surface for dimension.  That was to embellish the lid.

We welcomed the guests with mojitos and  provided for some finger food or appetizers during the night.  As they left, they received the cupcake in a box and the candle.

And... let me share some photos to mark the 45 years celebration event in my life... just for fun...

And of course... with a glass of wine!  I went with white that night to keep me refreshed.  It was a Chilean Chardonnay... hotel's house wine.  Pretty good!

Shadow Box

Happy Saturday.

I recently had a class with Frank García, from Prima. You can check out his blog here:  Haus of W.

His style is very romantic shabby chic, and it goes perfectly with the Prima products in general.  Even though I usually jump from style to style, and shabby chic is not the most frequent I use, I have to admit I really enjoyed the class.  Firstly, he explains very well and is very organized.  And the other thing, and the one I really enjoyed the most, is that I was able to learn techniques that I can use with other styles that I most commonly follow.  I love the way he made us achieve great dimension in the projects and the use of cords to keep paper in place.... Amazing.

Anyway, this page I made in his class, added some sort of my personal touch with tiny details, and waited for a great photo to use...   One of our friend's sister had a baby girl recently and I thought, this is it!

Before I show you the result, let me tell you I found these great shadow boxes at TJ Maxx.  Great design and perfect size.  I glued the layout in the middle (with hot glue to make sure it stays in place), and used thin chipboard to make two pieces to place at both sides of the layout to make it pop even more.

So, not only the layout has great dimension with flowers, pop up elements and so, but I also made the edges of the layout itself to be in 3D.

Since the shadow box is deep enough I could do this and have a great result.  This is going to be our gift for the happy parents.

A Thank You Tag!

Hello friends.  How are you?

I just stopped by to show a little tag I made for my neighbor friend.  I want to thank her for a nice gesture she made for us in relation to a medicine we needed for our dog-son.  The details of the favor she made us is not important, but it is the fact that she said we can count on her always.  Her disposition to help was tremendous and she was very kind. 

And, this is not a big deal, but since what she did was related to our dog, I made her this tag just for fun and to reinforce how grateful we are for what she did.

I used the Cricut machine to cut the doggie and added some crazy eyes.  I embellished with doily, patterned papers, stickers, fiber, and more.  I also used ink, glossy accents and jewels.  I used two stamps... the "heart" is from a Unity Stamp Co. called "you+me=happy", and the "thank you" sentiment is from TAC.  The banner is imperfectly hand cut and it was completely on purpose.  I wanted the tag to look crafty.  She will know this was specially made for her.  It even got her name!

I am not sure if she would use this for anything, or just hang it in some place, but when I made it, I concentrated on how sweet she is and how she helped us.

Multiple Challenges!

Dear friends...  Let me share with you two cards I made just for fun and some challenges...

They were mainly for the Chalk N Stock but then I realized the linky was closed and I couldn't enter but I had fun... don't worry about me :(...

For the first one I used a border punch and cut some lace strips in cardstock, which I colored with chalk and glued to the card base.  I also used another punch to cut the scalloped oval where you see the TAC stamp "P is for princess" sentiment, and then glued to red cardstock and cut the border with scissors.

I also stamped some damasks (also from TAC)... and a CAS card has been completed.

I was going to link this post to the Chalk n' Stock Challenge.  The provided a bingo so you can match the requirements and I chose the second horizontal line which includes:  punches, color, cardstock, glue and scissors. 

But they allow a double entry for the challenge, so I made another card...

For this one please note I painted the oval and green strip cardstock with chalk.  I also colored with chalk a separate piece of cardstock where I stamped the Xmas tree and then cut with scissors.  Both the tree and the sentiment are from Scrappy Cat stamps.

For this card I used a sketch from Stamptacular Sunday Challenge, and also chose the Xmas theme thinking of the cool weather from Outlawz Challenges Sunday CAS.
